What's Going on Here?

Welcome to my Blog! I am an MRes student at STOR-i, Lancaster University and as part of my development as a student I will be maintaining a blog. STOR-i is a EPRSC funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), it mainly focuses on applications of STatistics and Operations Research in Industry. To read more about me you can click on the STOR-i Website button in the menu.

Anyway about the actual blog. In the MRes year at STOR-i we attend talks & master classes on quite a large variety of subjects in Statistics & Operations research, I will be writing blog posts about a selection of these which I find most interesting. Also, there is two mini projects, one from OR and one from Statistics which you can expect more in-depth blog posts about.

My interests (currently) are mainly in programming and statistical learning (prediction, modelling and learning from data), so you can expect posts about those whenever I get bored.

A quick guide on how to use the site:

  • If you click on the “Mike” logo in fancy writing at the bottom of the post you’ll get brought to the main page.
  • Clicking on a “#topic” under my posts on the main page will list all the posts on the same topic if you’re interested in particular themes of posts.
  • Up in the top right menu there’re links to my website, STOR-i’s website and this post encase you feel like reading it again. Also, there’s a subscribe button, this feeds information to certain browser add-ins to alert you when I post. If you don’t have such an add-in I wouldn’t click it
  • There’s also a links up the top of the main page to my email and to my github (my githubs fairly bare at the moment but hopefully it’ll become impressive as time goes on.)
  • Comments use a service called disqus, it’s a reputable service which supports various login options.
  • Finally at the bottom of the page there’re links to the subsequent blog post so you can gobble up all of my blog posts efficiently.
